Capture the cynical, high-energy spirit of the 1998 cult classic SLC Punk! with this 1-of-1 original stencil painting of Stevo. This is not a mass-produced poster or a digital print; it is a physical, mixed-media masterwork created in my Buffalo, NY studio.
I produced this piece using hand-cut stencils to define Matthew Lillard’s iconic portrayal of the Salt Lake City anarchist. To ensure the figure remains the focal point, a hand-painted “halo” separation was applied, allowing the portrait to jump off the panel.
The “Anarchy” Background: Reflecting the chaotic aesthetic of the underground scene, the subject is set against a distressed background of flat matte splatters in red, orange, and yellow. This warm, aggressive color palette provides a sharp, graphic contrast to Stevo’s signature solid blue hair, creating a visual tension that perfectly mirrors the film’s energy.
The Process & Materials: To ensure this piece remains a durable centerpiece in your collection, it is prepared on a high-quality wood panel with a clean, industrial profile. The entire work is finished with a protective satin varnish, which deepens the color contrast and protects the textured background while eliminating the harsh, distracting reflections caused by room lighting.
