I haven’t been posting much recently, and I just wanted to give you guys a heads up as to what’s going on. Remember the other day when I said that I was working on a cool new design for this site, and planning on implementing it in the same manner as Metallica.com where you can pick your preferred design? Well, I got far as far as starting the coding. The front page is pretty much done, I just have to come up with an idea for the sidebar links and the footer, plus I have to work on how the main site navigation is going to work when it’s done. Here’s a screenshot:
Hopefully I’ll get some time to work on it soon, and we’ll get to launch the concept sometime soon!
You guys may have noticed that the tagline for this site has had to do with Drew Carey and The Price is Right. While watching the show today, I decided to take a look at the Wikipedia entry on Drew Carey. I found out that Drew Carey was a part of The Sims: House Party expansion pack, and that reminded me of an episode of The Drew Carey Show where the entire opening segment was done in the style of The Sims. Here it is, for your viewing pleasure:
Well, I’ve been putting off working on the FropacCMS project out of sheer laziness lately, but perhaps it’s for the best as NETTUTS has started a series on how to create a PHP5 Framework, which is essentially a more advanced (thus more secure and easier to work with) version of what FropacCMS was anyway. I’m planning on using this series to learn more about designing for PHP, and tweaking it to my specifics, thus still creating the FropacCMS.
So, I posted earlier that I wanted to take some pictures at band practice today so I could finish off my “GEAR” section. Yeah, my dumbass forgot my camera. Anyways, it felt good to jam with my brothers in thinksobrain again. Three months is far too long to go without doing so - and my throat is feeling it.
Anyways, I’m still planning on putting a gallery of older thinksobrain pictures on thinksobrain.com, but for now, I’m going to rest my weary head.
For the first time in over three months, all four members of thinksobrain will be in the same place at the same time. Some of us haven’t even seen each other over the course of that time period, and I’m really looking forward to it. Plus, I finally get to use my new amp. I’m bringing my camera, so I’ll be able to take some pictures for the “gear” section, and maybe even - *gasp* - finish it! It’s the only section on the site that’s nowhere near finished, so that’ll be cool. Maybe even get some new pics for thinksobrain.com while I’m at it. I’m thinking of uploading a gallery of pictures from the early days, back when it was myself, Lucifer, Rob, and Dan - who apparently is still pissed off at me, but come on, he kept blowing off band practice and we had two huge shows coming up. What the fuck was I supposed to do?
I don’t know, in retrospect, maybe I should’ve put friendship before the band. On the other hand, I’m in a band that has serious potential, and having a guy who was playing with us for nearly a year who wasn’t showing any improvement was holding us back. I maintain that telling him he was out of thinksobrain was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I went up to him one day a month or so later and I apologized to him for the way everything happened. He didn’t want to accept my apology, and that’s fine with me - I was man enough to try to patch shit up, and if he wants to hold a grudge, which I’ve heard he still does to this day, then that’s fine.
Anyways, I always say that I’m never satisfied, and here’s some concept art proving it:
I’m not sure if/when/how I’ll be utilizing that. I read a great tutorial the other day on PSDfan.com about designing grungy website layouts. I didn’t really get too far into it because I ended up obsessing over how to get the sketch of myself to look pretty good. Anyways, we’ll see what happens. I’m actually pretty happy with the current look, but I think I might do something nifty like over on metallica.com where you can switch the page theme. As always, time will tell.
One more thing before I go, I just saw the Niagara Falls, NY based band klear the other night. They reunited with their original singer, Fred Shafer, and they sounded great. I’ll recommend it once more - if you don’t have their albums, find them and pick them up!
Thanks for reading my rant, guys. Time to go get ready for the reunion!
